The Transitions

We have been extremely busy the past few weeks, so apologies for not getting a post sooner!   May was a month of transition for us.  We went from Shaun going to Spanish School for 4 weeks while the girls and I tried to wrap up homeschooling for the school year!  I might add Shaun’s Spanish amazes me everytime!  He is doing very well, and the girls and I are slowly learning!  I am super proud of Madison and Makaylee for being so brave and trying to adjust daily to a new “normal” for them.  I would like to say finishing out the school year was easy for them, but I’d be lying.  It was difficult on all of us.  The daily “missing their friends and wanting to move back” was sometimes emotionally exhausting.  We spent much of May just trying to simply adjust.  We are finally feeling a little more at home and trying to realize and accept what our new “normal” is.Shaun, our Spanish teacher! J

Since being here, we have felt extremely safe in our environment.  For the most part, we feel safe to allow the girls to run around and play outside.  However, our peace was robbed when someone came into our yard at 8am one day and stole the extension ladder from the backyard.  The unfortunate thing is, we know as quick as they went without a trace, it was someone close by.  Needless to say, we spent a few nights together in one room.  As we know, they hopefully wouldn’t hurt us, just some petty theft, it still shook our peace.

Finding time to play at the park.

(Shaun’s storyJ) When I first arrived here, God had put a person upon my heart that I felt as though I was suppose to disciple.  But I felt in no way would I be able to communicate.  At least, I could not communicate beyond saying hello.  Although God had placed a burden upon my heart to disciple this person, I had no idea how to get past the language barrier.  So I sat on my hands and did nothing, somewhat frustrated at the fact that I was convicted.  One day when talking with our neighbors (whom speak English J), we were introduced and found out that the very man I was convicted to speak to spoke English!  God always convicts for a reason.  We should never limit God or the holy spirit when convicted.  All we need to do is follow thru.  And in the end, we get to see God’s divine power and Glory at work.  If I had went down and spoke to him, I would have found out how God had already prepared him to receive.  If only I would have had enough faith to put it in God’s hands and allow God to work thru me instead of making excuses, God would be glorified!  So this is a lesson, that I am the one getting in the way of God, and I need to step aside and let God use this body for his glory!

The end of May, the Sanchezs’ had a team from Miami come.  Their goal was to build a school in Jobo.  If you remember, we had a post earlier with a bunch of sand.  Now there is a beautiful building there.  We weren’t able to go with this team, because Shaun was still in school, but we were told it was quite the experience!  The locals had cut down a tree in the jungle and staked the wood to dry.  So after the 3 mile hike, they hiked another ½ mile to haul the wood out and begin forming up the building to pour concrete.  After 4 days in Jobo, there is now a beautiful school room.  This team also begin construction on a green house at the Sanchezs’ house.  A big thanks to Jose, Adrian, and Cory for their hard work and accomplishments while they were here!

We have had several ask about sending mail to us.  As of now, we still don’t have a PO box.  The best thing to do is mail it to us at 1107 Eagle Crest Rd. Centralia, IL 62801 and my parents will send it with a team.  Those wishing to support financially can either mail it to the above address or send to Feed The Crave 2511 Veterans Drive  Effingham, IL 62401 marked for Kim and Shaun Splechter Family.   We want to thank all of you who are supporting us by keeping us in your prayers or financially.  We appreciate it more than you could imagine!
